The Antidote: Break the Sabotage Loop | My Great Bookkeeper

THE ANTIDOTE SERIES

The Antidote: Break the Sabotage Loop

You do not need to learn how to do the bookkeeping — that is what you give to us. What matters is learning to catch the decisions, delays and habits around the business that keep creating the mess in the first place.

This interactive simulator focuses on the things only the business owner can control: sending information, reading the reports we prepare, protecting tax money, following up debtors, pricing properly, controlling spending, making decisions from evidence and acting before a problem becomes urgent.

This is the business pathway you are training:
Notice the sabotage pattern. Pause before reacting. Look at the real number. Name the consequence. Choose one useful business action. Do it. Then repeat the process.

THE NEW BUSINESS-OWNER SEQUENCE

Stop Letting Autopilot Run the Business.

When an uncomfortable business number, overdue task or decision appears, do not make “feeling better” the first job. Make the next useful business action the job.

1

Notice

Catch the urge to flee, freeze, rush, guess or catastrophise before you follow it.

2

Pause

Stop clicking. Relax your shoulders. Take a slower breath. Create a small gap before action.

3

Real Number

Use the actual bank balance, overdue amount, tax liability, margin, wage cost or report — not the story in your head.

4

Consequence

Name what happens if nothing changes: late tax, squeezed cash flow, lost margin, unpaid debtors or another urgent clean-up.

5

One Action

Choose the smallest useful owner action: approve, send, chase, stop, price, transfer, decide or ask.

6

Do It

Complete the action now instead of putting it back into the “later” pile.

7

Register

Notice that you acted before the problem became urgent. That is the behaviour you want to repeat.

8

Repeat

Run the same sequence on the next transaction, and again during tomorrow’s bookkeeping session.

THIS IS PRACTICE, NOT A ONE-OFF TEST

One Quiz Does Not Stop Business Sabotage.

The value comes from catching the same owner behaviours in real life — delaying, overspending, ignoring reports, holding back documents, failing to chase money or making decisions from the bank balance alone — and replacing them.

When the old pathway appears

  • Do not ignore the report because you dislike the number.
  • Do not spend tax or super money because the bank account looks healthy.
  • Do not leave customer debts, pricing problems or approvals until they become urgent.
  • Do not hide information from your bookkeeper because you are embarrassed by it.

Practise the replacement

  • Name the owner behaviour you are about to repeat.
  • Pause before reacting.
  • Look at the actual number or ask us for it.
  • Name the consequence of doing nothing.
  • Choose one owner action and do it.
  • Repeat until acting early becomes normal.
Your daily training rule: each time you catch the old habit, treat it as a cue to rehearse the new sequence. You are not learning to do our bookkeeping job. You are learning to do your business-owner job sooner: provide, approve, decide, protect cash, read the numbers and act on what they are telling you.

25 BREAK-THE-SABOTAGE-LOOP DRILLS

Will You Catch the Sabotage Before It Costs You?

Choose the response that best protects the business instead of feeding the old sabotage loop. After each answer, you will see the replacement owner behaviour to practise in real life.

Your Result

YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE TRAINING

Understanding the pathway once is not the same as having a new habit.

Take this sequence into the real running of your business. Each time you notice yourself delaying, avoiding, overspending, ignoring a number, withholding information or making a reactive decision, deliberately run it again.

NOTICE → PAUSE → REAL NUMBER → CONSEQUENCE → ONE ACTION → DO IT → REPEAT

Practise it whenever a financial or operational decision appears. The purpose of repetition is to make the useful response increasingly familiar and easier to access. Instead of repeatedly rehearsing “uncomfortable number → avoid → bigger problem”, you practise “uncomfortable number → look → decide → act early”.

You are not trying to become your own bookkeeper. You are practising being the business owner who can receive financial information, make a decision and act on it before the old avoidance pattern takes over.

OLD QUESTION
“How long can I avoid looking at this?”
NEW QUESTION
“What is the next useful business-owner action?”

HOW TO SABOTAGE A BUSINESS

First, Spot the Saboteur.

Before you can change the pattern, you have to recognise when the Saboteur has got into your head. It is the little voice that makes avoidance, delay and bad business decisions sound completely reasonable at the time.

Step One

Spot the Saboteur

The Saboteur does not normally announce itself. It turns up as a perfectly reasonable excuse: leave it until tomorrow, do not open the report, the customer will probably pay, there is plenty of money in the bank, or you will deal with the problem later.

The Saboteur whispers:
“You do not need to deal with that today.”

This is where you learn to recognise the voice, the excuses and the repeated business-owner behaviours before they quietly start running the business for you.

Step Two

Then Find the Antidote.

Once you can hear the Saboteur talking, you can start doing something about it. The Antidote is our solution series — practical ways to interrupt the habits, reactions and decisions that keep feeding the same business problems.

Recognition comes first. The Antidote is what comes next.
