If you are thinking about working with My Great Bookkeeper, this is where your journey begins.
You might need ongoing bookkeeping, BAS Agent support, help fixing a file, Xero training, Halaxy support or simply some guidance about what your business actually needs.
You do not have to know the answer before you contact us. That is part of what this page is here to help you work out.
π₯Β Talk to Us FirstTalk First or Arrive Prepared
There is no single right way to begin. Choose whichever starting point feels easier for you.
Have a Chemistry Call
If you would rather talk first, tell us what is happening in the business, what brought you here and what you think you may need help with.
You do not need to have everything worked out before we speak. The Chemistry Call is there so we can hear what is happening and help you work out the most sensible place to begin.
π₯ Book a Chemistry CallTell Us About Your Business First
If you would rather arrive prepared, complete our New Client Scope of Works so we can understand your business before we speak.
It gives us the practical information behind your business, including the systems you use, the bookkeeping support you may need and the areas we should talk through with you.
π₯ Tell Us About Your BusinessWhich Part of the Story Is Your Business At?
The amount of bookkeeping support a business needs usually changes as the business grows. These stages give you a quick way to recognise what your business may look like now.
Nurture
The beginning of the story.
A smaller business with fewer transactions, relatively simple systems and little or no payroll.
You may still be doing some of the bookkeeping yourself and simply need regular professional support to keep everything heading in the right direction.
Nurture
A lighter bookkeeping workload averaged across the course of the year.
The actual time depends on your transaction volume, systems and the amount of support you want from us.
π₯ Explore NurtureLearn
The numbers are starting to mean something.
There are more transactions, more bills and perhaps payroll has started.
You want the bookkeeping managed properly, while also having someone available to help you understand the systems and what your numbers are telling you.
Learn
More regular bookkeeping, reconciliation and support as the business starts developing stronger systems.
Additional time may be needed while you are learning how your bookkeeping processes and Xero file work.

Things are getting busier.
More customers, more suppliers, more transactions and possibly a growing team mean the bookkeeping now needs regular attention.
Weekly bookkeeping often begins to make much more sense at this stage.
Grow
Regular bookkeeping, reconciliations and the increasing day-to-day financial activity of the business.
Payroll, supplier bills, customer accounts and transaction volume can all increase the time required.
π₯ Explore GrowThrive
Your business has more moving parts.
Customers, suppliers, payroll and financial decisions mean bookkeeping is becoming part of the way the business operates.
The books need to stay current rather than simply being caught up later.
Thrive
A more established bookkeeping workload with frequent processing, reconciliations and financial oversight.
Payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reporting requirements can increase the time involved.

The bookkeeping now supports the business.
Higher transaction volume, payroll, suppliers and customer accounts mean reliable financial information is becoming increasingly important.
Your business may need bookkeeping attention several times throughout the week.
Lead
Higher-volume bookkeeping with more frequent processing, reconciliations, controls and financial reporting.
Some businesses at this stage will need considerably more time depending on transaction volume and complexity.

Sometimes there simply is no standard box.
Multiple entities, unusual systems, substantial transaction volumes or more complex workflows may need something built specifically around the business.
We look at the actual work rather than trying to force your business into a standard package.
Custom
There is no sensible standard time range here. We look at the transaction volume, systems, complexity and support required.
We then provide a starting estimate based on what we can actually see in your business.

What Is Bookkeeping ER β and When Would I Need It?
Bookkeeping ER is our rescue route for books that need more than ordinary day-to-day bookkeeping.
Maybe your Xero or MYOB file has fallen behind. Maybe the bank reconciliation no longer agrees. Maybe transactions have been duplicated, deleted or coded incorrectly. Or perhaps BAS or IAS deadlines are approaching and nobody is quite sure whether the numbers can be relied upon.
You do not need to work out what is wrong before contacting us, and you certainly do not need to clean the file up first. That is what Triage is for.
π₯ Our 3-Step Emergency Protocol:
- Triage: We look at the Xero or MYOB file as it currently stands and work out what appears to need attention first.
- ICU Untangling: We trace reconciliation problems, investigate unusual balances and transactions, and work through historical bookkeeping errors or missing information.
- Discharge Plan: Once the bookkeeping is back under control, we can work through BAS or IAS obligations within the services we are authorised to provide and help put a cleaner process in place going forward.
Rescue Fare: Specialist rescue and rectification work may fall under our $110β$150 + GST per hour Specialist Fare. We will explain what we have found and agree on the applicable rate before we track a single minute of specialist work. No surprise upgrades at the hospital gate.
Choose Your Fare
Different parts of the journey need different types of support. Flip a ticket up to reveal the fare. Click the back of the ticket when you are finished and it will flip back down.
Ongoing Bookkeeping
Regular bookkeeping, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and the day-to-day financial work that keeps your books moving.
Keep the Books Moving
You are charged for the bookkeeping time actually required for your business.
Some Journeys Need the Private Jet
Most businesses can travel perfectly well on our ordinary bookkeeping route. Some journeys require more technical knowledge, investigation, checking or another level of professional support.
Specialist Fare
Some work requires more than ordinary bookkeeping.
Some compliance work requires additional technical knowledge, investigation, professional judgement or a higher level of checking than ordinary day-to-day bookkeeping.
We may also need additional research, education or training so we properly understand a particular system, process or compliance requirement before continuing the work.
Some journeys need the private jet.
The additional expertise helps us protect the integrity of your records and make sure the work we undertake is completed carefully and within the professional requirements that apply.
Some clients want more explanation, more checking, more involvement, more hands-on support or a higher level of attention than the ordinary journey provides.
If the work changes while we are travelling, we will tell you what has changed, why the Specialist Fare may apply and agree on the next step with you before that additional work proceeds.
No surprise upgrades at the gate.
BAS Preparation & Lodgment
Professional preparation, review, working papers and lodgment of your Business Activity Statement.
BAS Preparation & Lodgment
BAS preparation and lodgment is a separate professional service from ordinary bookkeeping.
IAS Preparation & Lodgment
Preparation and lodgment of your Instalment Activity Statement where an IAS reporting obligation applies.
IAS Preparation & Lodgment
IAS preparation and lodgment is billed separately from ordinary bookkeeping.
Halaxy Support
Halaxy support can mean bookkeeping, ongoing practice-management assistance or more specialised system and workflow support.

π₯ Halaxy PM VAFor setup, workflow design, troubleshooting, configuration, integrations and more specialised Halaxy system support.
π₯ Halaxy FairyXero Focus Hour
Sometimes you do not need a whole training package. You simply need one focused hour inside your own Xero file to work through the thing you need help with.
One Hour. One Focus.
A private online session using your own Xero file and the area you actually need help with.
Use it for bank reconciliation, invoices, quotes, Hubdoc, reports, workflows or one specific area you want explained properly.
Xero Training Packages
Need more than a Focus Hour? Turn the ticket to compare the different Xero education options.
Choose the Amount of Education You Need
1 Γ 60-minute private online session for one focused Xero question, process or problem.
5 Γ 60-minute online sessions for businesses needing structured Xero education and onboarding.
7 Γ 60-minute sessions for more detailed training across your Xero workflows.
Your Flight Path Aboard
There are a few practical things we need to put in place before your bookkeeping journey begins. Each stop helps us understand the work, agree on how we will work together and make sure the right access is in place before takeoff.
Scope the Work
We start by understanding your business, your bookkeeping systems and what you actually need help with.
This gives us a clearer picture of the work involved before we decide how your ongoing support should look.
Tell Us About Your Business
Our New Client Scope of Works helps us collect the information we need without sending you backwards and forwards answering the same questions later.
It covers the practical things that affect your bookkeeping, including your entity, systems, payroll, transaction volume, BAS obligations and the support you are looking for.
π₯ Complete My Scope of WorksLocking In Your Route
Before we clear you for takeoff, we put our agreed services and responsibilities into a plain-English digital agreement.
No hidden fees, no messy surprisesβjust total clarity before takeoff.
Agree on the Journey
Your Partnership Agreement records the services we have agreed to provide, each partyβs responsibilities and the practical arrangements for working together.
It gives both sides a clear reference point before the work begins, so everyone knows what has been agreed before takeoff.
π₯ Partnership AgreementBAS Agent Authority
If we are providing BAS Agent services, the appropriate authority and access need to be put in place before we can act for your business.
This is separate from simply giving someone access to your accounting software.
Authority to Act
Where My Great Bookkeeper is providing BAS Agent services, we need the appropriate authority to act for your business and access the information required to perform those services.
We guide you through the steps so the correct authority is in place before regulated BAS Agent work begins.
π₯ Set Up BAS Agent AuthorityWelcome Aboard
Once the practical pieces are in place, we can start building the bookkeeping workflow around your business.
That might mean taking over existing bookkeeping, cleaning things up, setting up systems or simply keeping everything moving properly from here.
Your Journey Begins
With the agreed scope, working arrangements and required access in place, we can begin working with your business.
From here, the aim is simple: clearer books, stronger systems and a bookkeeping process that supports the business you are actually running.

The Golden Carrot
We are a little too busy serving our clients to spend our time chasing trophies β so we awarded ourselves one.
The Golden Carrot represents the standard we expect from ourselves: clear books, strong systems, genuine support and stronger businesses.
We would rather spend our time looking after the businesses that trust us than chasing something to put on our own shelf.
Awarded by us, to the standard we expect from ourselves.
